Instrumental Foundations & Music Directing

Welcome to the Instrumental Department at House of Bethany. We believe musicians are more than background support; they are carriers of presence, builders of altars, and servants of the King. You were created for more than simply playing an instrument — you were created to minister to the Lord. 

 

In the first year of classes, we focus on laying a foundation that equips you to honor your instrumental skill with purity and excellence. Each class in this department is designed to deepen your understanding of music while forming you into a Levite, one who is set apart to make a resting place for Jesus through sound.

 

This journey isnʼt just about learning notes or techniques; itʼs about becoming someone who plays unto the Lord with reverence, sensitivity, and skill. Our prayer is that by the end of this year, your instrument will become an extension of your heart, and your sound will become a response to His nearness.

Curriculum

Music Theory 1 & 2

A foundational study of how music works, covering rhythm, harmony, melody, intervals, and chord structure so you can play with confidence and understanding.

Ear Training 1 & 2

Strengthen your ability to recognize intervals, chords, rhythms, and melodies by ear. This course helps you develop the awareness and responsiveness needed to stay in sync with your team and the Spirit.

Nashville Number System

Learn to communicate music quickly and effectively in any key using numbers instead of chord names. This tool helps worship teams flow together in spontaneous and Spirit-led moments.

Basics of Musical Directing

An introduction to leading a worship team musically by giving clear cues, serving the room, and staying sensitive to the Lord throughout a set.

Basics of In-Ear Mixing

Learn how to build a personal in-ear monitor mix that eliminates distractions, keeps you connected to the team, and helps you stay locked in during worship.

Music Composition & Analysis

Explore the process of writing music that ministers to Jesus. Learn to craft melodies, progressions, and moments that carry the weight of His presence, while also analyzing what makes music powerful and effective.

Hymn Modernization

Rediscover the songs of the Church by giving them fresh, Spirit-led expression. Learn how to carry the depth of these timeless truths into the present-day sound.
